*Sullivan was locked in to a theatrical contract that barred him from competitive boxing from May 1890 to May 1892. During this time, the Police Gazette promoted bouts for an interim championship under gloved rules. Officially, Frank Slavin held this interim championship from 9/27/1890 to 11/1891, at which time Sullivan announced he would be returning and posted a deposit for a future fight.
